‘Dual diagnosis’, means that someone has a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) that is present alongside other diagnosable mental health issues, like significant depression or anxiety. For some individuals, addiction may be the manifestation of underlying mental health issues, and for others, these mental health issues may have developed during the course of the addiction. Dual diagnosis can be quite a common occurrence, and we are therefore well equipped to deal with it.
Whilst DARA is not a primary mental health centre, our world-class holistic approach allows us to manage and treat both the client’s addiction and any co-occurring mental health issues simultaneously.
Often clients will come to us having received treatment from a therapist for mental health issues that did not sufficiently address their addiction, or they may have attended group therapy for addiction that was not able to attend to their specific mental health issues. In reality, both need to be addressed if someone is to stand any serious chance of long-term recovery.
This is the beauty of residential care at DARA. We can provide comprehensive treatment for both your addiction and other conditions that are associated with it.
In DARA’s pre-admission process, each potential client is assessed for dual diagnoses. At times, new issues are identified during residential treatment, and these become part of the comprehensive care plan. DARA works closely with specialist service providers, and acute mental health issues can, therefore, be promptly dealt with by appropriate referral if needs be.
Integrated care means that each client receives seamless treatment by mental health and addiction professionals, in the same DARA facility. Therapists collaborate closely, to make sure that each facet of the care plan is meeting the needs of our clients.
DARA’s balanced approach to dual diagnosis treatment is based on the most current and effective evidence-based therapy. We are known for the quality of our services throughout the international addiction treatment community.
